Petrol-Diesel Price: Petrol and diesel prices in Mizoram have recently been increased by Rs 4 per liter. This increase has been implemented by the state government from September 1, 2024. State Taxation Minister Dr. Vanlalthalana gave information about this decision on Wednesday. According to the new prices, the price of one liter of petrol in the capital Aizawl is now Rs 99.24 and the price of diesel is Rs 88.02.

Purpose and basis of increase

According to Dr. Vanlalthalana, the purpose of this increase is to mobilize the necessary financial resources for social infrastructure and road maintenance. The minister clarified that the government has imposed a new service cess of Rs 2 per liter on petrol and diesel, in addition to this, a fee of Rs 2 per liter has also been added for road maintenance. This increase has been made for the progress and better maintenance of the social and infrastructure of the state, which is an important step in the development plans of the state.

Comparison of 2021 prices

However, Dr. Vanlalthlana also mentioned that despite the recent increase and the recently increased VAT charges, the current petrol and diesel prices are still lower than the 2021 prices. Recently, VAT on petrol has been increased from 5.23 percent to 10 percent and on diesel from 16.36 percent to 18 percent. Despite this increase, fuel prices in Mizoram have remained relatively stable over the past few years.

Political perspective and upcoming challenges

Mizoram is currently ruled by the 'Zoram People's Movement' party, which won the assembly elections last year. This new policy of the party and the government, which is related to the increase in fuel prices, is being seen from the point of view of the well-being and development of the people. However, this decision may also have political and economic implications, which will be assessed in the future.

Conclusion

This increase made by the Mizoram government is an important step to finance local infrastructure and social services. However, this move may impact the state's economy and the daily lives of citizens. The government claims that this decision will help strengthen the state's development plans, but its real impact will be evident only in the coming times.
