Cricket | Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has revealed that he was approached by some people to become the head coach of the Indian team during IPL 2021. He wanted to know if I was ready for it. Those people were pushing him a lot to become a coach, but he refused due to the nature of the job. Ponting is currently the head coach of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals. After the end of Ravi Shastri's tenure, BCCI has appointed Rahul Dravid as the head coach of Team India.

Ponting said on The Grade Cricketer Podcast, 'I had a conversation with a few people about it during the IPL. The people I spoke to wanted me to take up this responsibility. First thing I could not devote that much time. It would have meant that I could not coach in IPL, I would have had to leave Channel 7 as well. He gave this answer when he was asked whether coaching Team India was an idea that he liked.

Ponting further said that he was surprised to see Rahul Dravid playing the role. Because like him the former India captain also has a family to take care of. BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday said that it did not take much time for Dravid to be convinced about his role. With Potting uninterested, the same people made sure the right man was contacted and finalized.
