WFI New President / Sanjay Singh, considered close to Brijbhushan Singh, became the new president of WFI.

WFI New President: Earlier this year, veteran wrestlers of the country had started a movement against Brij Bhushan Singh and demanded his removal from the post. These wrestlers included Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik. All of them alleged that Bhushan had sexually exploited female players. She has defeated Anita Sheoran, who had won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. Anita had the support of the wrestlers who protested against Bhushan.

Earlier this year, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat had opened a front against Bhushan and staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. However, Bhushan had denied all the allegations against him. But later he had to leave his post following the order of the Supreme Court.

Sanjay Singh's panel boom

Sanjay Singh's panel was popular in these elections. People from his own panel won elections on most of the posts. Sanjay was the vice president of Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association. He got 40 votes while Anita got seven votes. Aneet's panel, however, held the post of general secretary. Here Prem Chand Lochab defeated Darshan Lal. The wrestlers protesting against these elections must have been heartbroken because once again Bhushan's people seem to be dominating it. On June 7, these wrestlers ended their protest, that too on the condition that no one from Bhushan's family would contest the elections. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had assured this.
