Mumbai : Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut's wife Varsha Raut appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Mumbai on Saturday in connection with the money laundering case. The case pertains to irregularities in the redevelopment of a 'chawl' and related transactions. ED has arrested Sanjay Raut in this case.

The central agency had earlier this week sent summons to Varsha Raut. After this, she reached the ED's office at Ballard Estate in South Mumbai on Saturday morning at 10.40 am. The ED can interrogate him by sitting face to face with Sanjay Raut and other accused in the case. A large number of policemen have been deployed outside the ED office.

1,034 crore land scam probe

The central agency is probing an alleged Rs 1,034-crore land scam related to the redevelopment of Patra 'Chawl' in Mumbai's Goregaon area. The ED had arrested Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut on August 1 in this case. The local court had on Thursday sent him to custody till August 8.

Raut denies any wrongdoing

The ED had told the court that Sanjay Raut and his family had received over Rs 1 crore deposited through alleged irregularities in the housing redevelopment project. However, Sanjay Raut (60), a close aide of Shiv Sena chief and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, had denied any wrongdoing and termed the ED case registered against him as fake.
