The rain and thunderstorm in Meerut on Wednesday afternoon stalled the electricity supply of the district. In Hastinapur area, trees were broken and fell on the road at many places. It rained with thunderstorms in the city at 6.30 pm. It rained heavily in Baghpat. Hail rain also occurred in Balaini area. Lightning struck a house in village Khatta Prahladpur. In this, Pushpa (40) wife Bittu of the village died. Pooja wife Pawan and Pari (8) daughter Pappu got burnt. Akshit (18), who was returning from the farm in Mavikhurd village, also died due to lightning.


Trees fell on the Delhi-Dehradun, Meerut-Karnal highways in Muzaffarnagar and the circular road in the city, forcing traffic changes. Lightning struck a house in Budhana and Shifa (8) became unconscious after being hit by it. A youth, Girish Kumar Yadav (30), was killed when he was buried under a wall at Sahpau in Hathras district and five people were injured when tin sheds fell at two other places.


In Ali Akbarpur village of Shahjahanpur, a cement pole fell due to the storm. Due to this, Sridevi (50) died on the spot. Hafiz Asad (28) lost his life due to lightning in Sambhal. Ajay (11) died after being crushed by the branch of a tree that fell down in the storm in Khaduiya village of Patiali in Kasganj. Etah, Mainpuri, Mathura and Firozabad witnessed thunderstorms and hailstorms. At the same time, the storm also caused damage in Agra.
