GST Council / States to get GST payment of 20 thousand crores, Finance Minister announced

Many important decisions have been taken in the meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council. After the meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told a press conference that the states will be paid GST of Rs 20 thousand crore late on Monday night. 20,000 crores received by the Center from compensation cess will be disbursed among the states.

Delhi: Many important decisions have been taken in the meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council. After the meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told a press conference that the states will be paid GST of Rs 20 thousand crore late on Monday night. 20,000 crores received by the Center from compensation cess will be disbursed among the states.

He said that 20 states had agreed to the proposal of the Center in the meeting. But some states turned down the proposal. In a way, the issue of GST compensation has not been resolved in the meeting. The Finance Minister said that further issues will be discussed in the meeting.

Such situation due to corona crisis

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that we are not refusing to give compensation amount to the states. Such a situation was created just because of the Corona crisis. No one had imagined such a situation before. The current situation is not such that the central government is confiscating funds and refusing to give. Funds have to be borrowed.
