Opposition started nationwide strike

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ruling Awami League is expected to win for the fourth consecutive time as former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's party boycotted the election. BNP has announced a boycott of the elections and called for a 48-hour nationwide strike from Saturday. BNP has called for a 48-hour nationwide general strike from 6 am on January 6 to 6 am on January 8. The party claims that no election will be fair and credible under the current government. Opposition caste parties are also included in the 27 parties contesting the elections. The rest are members of the ruling Awami League-led coalition.

Many cases of violence occurred in Bangladesh

Apart from this, incidents of widespread violence are also being seen in many parts of the country. According to fire service data, at least 14 cases of arson were reported in the 16 hours till 9:30 am on Saturday. A passenger train was set on fire near Dhaka on Friday night. Four people had died in this incident also. However, the opposition has also demanded an investigation into this matter. Apart from this, according to local media, arson was carried out targeting 5 polling stations outside Dhaka on Friday itself. Demolition has also been done in this case. The police is said to be taking action regarding this.

Votes will be cast at 42 thousand polling stations

According to the Election Commission, preparations for voting have been completed in 300 constituencies across the country. Besides, security arrangements have also been ensured. A total of 11.96 crore registered voters will exercise their franchise at more than 42,000 polling stations on Sunday. More than 1,500 candidates from 27 political parties are contesting in this election. Apart from these, there are also 436 independent candidates. More than 100 foreign observers, including three observers from India, will monitor the 12th general elections. This election is being conducted amidst tight security. Voting will run from 8 am to 5 pm. The results of this election will be declared on January 8.

Hasina government for the fourth time?
