New Delhi: Amid a slew of allegations by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Minister Nawab Malik against Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede of using fake documents to get a government job, the latter produced his birth certifcate in the court in a bid to clarify his stand.

The certificate mentions his name as Sameer Gyandev Wankhede. According to Wankhede, since his mother was Muslim, she had mentioned Islam as her son's religion during his early days in school, but after he completed his primary schooling, his father got this section corrected everywhere, right from their local Tehsil office to the BMC.

These documents were presented by Wankhede in court. The set of documents presented also includes his school leaving certificate from a school in Wadala. In this certificate, his father's name has been mentioned as Gyandev and he is said to belong to a scheduled caste, Malhar. Wankhede said, "How could I have changed all these records back then as I was only a minor at the time."

Recently, Maharashtra State Minister Nawab Malik had accused Sameer Wankhede of getting a government job by using a fake birth certificate. He also held a press conference on Thursday to discuss Wankhede's fake birth certificate and shared his 'real birth certificate' on Twitter.

Nawab Malik made two tweets, one with Wankhede's photo with the sub-text "Can you identify him?". In the second tweet, he shared a birth certificate issued by the Municipal Corporation, mentioning Sameer's father's name as 'Dawood K. Wankhede' and his religion as 'Muslim'.

On the other hand, Malik levelled another allegetion that Wankhede had 'framed' his neighbour, who is also an IPS officer's son, in a fake NDPS case. After a tussle with his neighbour, Wankhede is alleged to have filed a case under Section 27A to get his son arrested.
