To avoid any kind of fraud in it, the government has taken the step of making hallmarking and HUID code mandatory on gold jewelery. The purpose of this system is to guarantee the purity of the jewelery and protect the interests of the customers. Recently, the fourth phase of this hallmarking law has been started, in which the scope of mandatory hallmarking has been increased by including 18 more cities.Mandatory hallmarking law implemented in 361 citiesThe government informed in a notification that the fourth phase of mandatory hallmarking for gold jewelery and artifacts has been started. This time 18 new cities have been added to the list, so that now only hallmarked jewelery will be bought and sold in a total of 361 cities. The purpose of this step is to maintain purity and authenticity in jewelery, so that customers do not become victims of fraud.The scheme has been expanded in these statesThe fourth phase of this scheme has come into effect from November 5. According to the government, hallmarking has been made mandatory in 18 districts of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. In the earlier three phases, it was also implemented in other cities of the country, which has increased its scope in every state.Increase in the number of jewelers and hallmarking centersAccording to government data, after the implementation of hallmarking, the number of registered jewelers selling jewelery has increased. Earlier 34,647 jewelers were registered under this scheme, while now this number has increased to 1,94,039. Apart from this, the number of hallmarking centers has also increased from 945 to 1,622 now. This means that the availability of hallmark jewelery has increased with the customers and the system of ensuring quality has improved.HUID code: Identification of purity of jewelryAccording to the government, so far more than 40 crore hallmark jewelry has been sold in the country, which has HUID code marked on it. This HUID code is an alpha-numeric code that provides information about the purity of the jewelry, the jeweler and the testing center. Customers can check the authenticity of their jewelry anywhere with the help of this code. The HUID code guarantees the quality of the jewelry and provides security to the customers on their investment.Check the authenticity of jewelry with BIS Care AppTo ensure that customers do not have any doubts about the purity of the jewelry they have purchased, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has also provided the facility of a mobile app called BIS Care. Customers can check the authenticity of their hallmark jewelry with the help of this app and can lodge a complaint of any kind of irregularity or misuse of BIS mark.ConclusionThe main objective of this extension of the hallmarking law is to ensure that customers get the full value of their investment and prevent incidents of fraud.
