SL vs BAN / Angelo Mathews got angry at Shakib after the match - told harsh words, said amazing things

Out of the last 37 matches played so far in the World Cup 2023, hardly any match would have been waited for the end as much as there was for the 38th match played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in New Delhi. Sri Lankan veteran Mathews, who was given 'time out' against Bangladesh, did not show much anger during the match but after the end of the match, he did not control his anger.

SL vs BAN: Out of the last 37 matches played so far in the World Cup 2023, hardly any match would have been waited for the end as much as there was for the 38th match played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in New Delhi. Sri Lankan veteran Mathews, who was given 'time out' against Bangladesh, did not show much anger during the match but after the end of the match, he did not control his anger. The former Sri Lankan captain slammed Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan in a press conference, calling his actions shameful.

In this match played on Monday 6th November, a picture was seen which was never seen in the 146 years of international cricket. Its victim was former Sri Lankan captain and veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews. In the 25th over of the Sri Lankan innings, Angelo Mathews was declared time out for not being ready to play within the stipulated time of 2 minutes. He became the first cricketer to be out in this manner in international cricket. Since then it became an issue of controversy.

‘Shameful…Shakib has fallen very low…’

Bangladesh won this match with its strong batting. The star of the victory was captain Shakib himself, who clearly said that whatever he did was within the rules and he was ready to take any chance to win. After this, everyone's eyes were on Sri Lanka's press conference and the Sri Lankan team also sent Mathews for this responsibility. Once the issue was raised, Mathews started his verbal attack against Shakib and the Bangladeshi team.

Wrapping up the Bangladeshi captain, Mathews said that till this match he always had a lot of respect for Shakib but from here onwards it completely ended. He further said that what Shakib and his team did was extremely shameful and if a team is willing to stoop to this level to take wickets then there is something very wrong (in the game). Mathews also said that it would have been understandable if he had been out for mankading (run out on non-strike) or for disrupting the game, but he did not do anything like that.

‘If you respect, you will get respect’

Not only this, Mathews claimed that his 2 minutes were not completed and when the helmet strap broke, there were still 5 seconds left. He said that the umpires also saw all this but then told that Bangladesh appealed. Mathews said that my two minutes had not been completed so where is the common sense in such a decision.

Mathews did not stop there and once again wrapped up the Bangladeshi team and said that in his 15 years of international career, he had never seen any player or team falling so low. After the match, most of the Sri Lankan players did not shake hands with the Bangladeshi players. When Mathews was asked about this, the Sri Lankan legend said without hesitation – “We will respect only those who respect us.
