Representatives from Assam and Mizoram held talks here on Thursday and agreed to resolve the interstate border dispute amicably, officials said. The Assam government has also decided to revoke a previously issued advisory against travel to Mizoram, they said.

The two-state governments have agreed to maintain peace in the interstate border areas and welcome the deployment of neutral force by the Indian government in this regard.

Joint Declaration signed by Minister of Border Protection and Development Assam Atul Bora and Commissioner and Secretary of Ministry of Education Tripathi, Minister of Home Affairs Mizoram Lalchamliana and Minister of Interior Vanlalngathsaka.

The two states have different interpretations of their territorial boundaries. While Mizoram believed its boundaries to be along an "interior line" drawn in 1875 to protect tributes from outside influence, the demarcation of the district's boundaries by Assam was made in the 1930s.
