Home Minister Amit Shah said in Rajya Sabha that historic work has been done in the last 10 years. He promised to make the country free from Naxalism by 31 March 2026. Also, he described the removal of Article 370 in Kashmir as an important step for the unity of the country and reiterated the zero tolerance policy on terrorism.

Amit Shah In Rajya Sabha: On Friday, March 21, Home Minister Amit Shah discussed in detail the functioning of the Home Ministry in the Rajya Sabha. In his address, he gave detailed information on the internal security of the country, Naxalism, terrorism and the changes made in the Home Ministry. Also, he claimed that in the last ten years, the country has seen such progress, which had not happened since independence.

Tough stand on Naxalism

Home Minister Amit Shah promised to free the country from Naxalism by March 31, 2026. He said that Naxalism is not a political problem, but it is necessary to end it. He told that the Modi government is giving priority to development work in Naxal-affected areas, so that the local people can join the mainstream.

According to Home Ministry data:

So far in 2025, 90 Naxalites were killed, 104 arrested, and 164 surrendered.

In 2024, 290 Naxalites were neutralized, 1090 arrested, and 881 surrendered.

There were 16,463 incidents of Naxal violence between 2004 and 2014, while during the Modi government's tenure (2014-2024), this number decreased by 53% to 7,744.

The number of martyrdom of security forces decreased by 73% to 509, and civilian deaths decreased by 70%.

Government's stand on terrorism and Kashmir

The Home Minister said that the Modi government follows a policy of "zero tolerance" towards terrorism. Earlier there was no concrete action after terrorist attacks, but after the Uri and Pulwama attacks, India responded to Pakistan by carrying out surgical strikes and air strikes.

Discussing the changes in Kashmir, he said that:

40,000 government jobs were given between 2019 and 2024.

1.51 lakh self-employment opportunities were created.

Terrorism-related violent incidents reduced by 70%.

There were 7,217 terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir between 2004 and 2014, while between 2014 and 2024 this number reduced to 2,242.

He said that the decision to repeal Article 370 was not taken for vote bank politics, but for national security and unity. This decision fulfills the idea of ​​​​"one constitution, one flag" of the Constitution makers.

Changes in the Home Ministry and security policy

Home Minister Amit Shah also highlighted the changes in the responsibilities and functioning of the Home Ministry. He said that border security and internal security come under the purview of the Home Ministry, while law and order is under the states.

However, modern crimes are no longer confined to state-boundaries, such as:

Narcotics (drug trafficking)

Cybercrime

Organised crime gangs

Hawala transactions

Therefore, necessary changes have been made in the Home Ministry to take strict action against these crimes at the national level. He said that major reforms have been implemented in the Home Ministry in the last 10 years, which has strengthened the security of the country.
