Lok Sabha Election: Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, who recently merged his party with Congress, has filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Purnia, showing a rebellious attitude. In the seat sharing between the parties of India Alliance, Purnia seat went to RJD's account. Congress's statement has also come out after Pappu Yadav's filing of nomination. Bihar Congress State President Akhilesh Singh, while clarifying the party's position regarding the nomination of Pappu Yadav on Purnia Lok Sabha seat, said that no one has been given ticket from Purnia. If Pappu Yadav has filed his nomination then he will not be the leader of the Grand Alliance.

No Congress leader had reached the nomination

Dissatisfied Congress leaders arrived on motorcycles to file their nomination papers. When Pappu Yadav reached RO office, no Congress leader was present there. Moments before filing his nomination, he said that I will remain with the Congress till my last breath. Talking to reporters after filing nomination papers, he said, “I have the support of Congress. I am contesting the election as an independent candidate. Many people conspired to assassinate me politically.

Pappu Yadav had recently merged his party with Congress.

Pappu Yadav had recently joined Congress by merging his party Jan Adhikar Party, established in 2015, with his son Sarthak. He broke ties with the party and formed Jan Adhikar Party just a year after winning the Madhepura Lok Sabha seat on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket. Supaul seat along with Purnia and Madhepura went to RJD as part of seat sharing between the grand alliance. Due to this, his plan to contest elections from Supaul seat as a Congress candidate failed. Supaul seat was earlier represented by his wife Ranjit Ranjan.
