Basit said that we should be alert about India in time.On Monday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told the Lok Sabha that many states want to continue the system of compensation under GST beyond June 2022. Sitharaman was asked in the Lok Sabha whether the central government has received requests to pursue the system of compensation in view of the difficulties arising due to the epidemic, in response to which she said that so far requests from many states have been received in this regard. Along with this, he made it clear that the Center is committed to give GST compensation to the states for five years as per the constitutional provision.In fact, to compensate for the loss of tax revenue to the states due to the implementation of GST, the Center had given a guarantee of compensation for five years from July 1, 2017, under which the compensation amount is given to the states every two months. This period ends in June this year. The loss in revenue for compensation is calculated by assuming an annual increase of 14 per cent in tax collected by the states in 2015-16. The compensation amount is largely recovered by levying a cess on the highest tax on liquor, tobacco and luxury products.BJP parliamentary party meeting todayBharatiya Janata Party Parliamentary Party meeting will be held on Tuesday. This is the third tranche of supplementary demand aside from the budget for the financial year 2020-21. With the approval of these demands, the total expenditure under supplementary demands in the current financial year will increase to Rs 1.58 lakh crore. According to the proposal of the government, out of the total supplementary demand, the net cash expenditure is to be Rs 1.07 lakh crore, while Rs 50,946 crore will be adjusted against the actual savings made by various ministries and departments and increased receipts.Bihar gets 1.41 lakh crore as share in central taxesIn response to a question, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary said that Bihar has given revenue of more than Rs 1.41 lakh crore as a share in central taxes. He said, the central government released more than Rs 45,000 crore to Bihar as grants for rural development, health sector, state disaster fund, among others. Bihar got Rs 59,861.41 crore from central tax income based on the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission. Similarly, Rs 81,789.32 crore was released in 2021-22. According to the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, Rs 8,727 crore was given to urban local bodies, Rs 3,175 crore and Rs 2,548 crore was given to the State Disaster Fund.Quality of Ganga water bathable, improvement in Central Pollution Control Board dataAfter improving the quality of Ganga water, it has now become bathable. According to the data of the Central Pollution Control Board for the year 2021, the amount of oxygen in the Ganges water is in line with the standards set for bathing, as well as the ecosystem of the river will also be better.Minister of State for Jal Shakti Vishweshwar Tudu said that no spread area of river Ganga was found in the priority category one to four. Only two stretches of the river were found in the fifth category. In this category, the amount of organic oxygen demand (BOD) per liter fixed by the Pollution Control Board for pollution is between 3-6 mg. The first category is considered the most polluted, with the highest amount of BOD, while the fifth is considered the least polluted.
- According to the Ganga water quality data between 2014 and 2021, there was improvement in oxygen content at 31 places, biological oxygen demand (BOD) at 46 places and level of faecal bacteria at 23 places.
- The Central Pollution Control Board monitors the quality of Ganga water at 97 locations in five states under the Namami Ganga programme. 30,853 crores under Namami Gange, 364 projects were started. Of these, 182 projects have been completed.
- The 160 projects are linked to sewage infrastructure, with a sewage network of 5,227 km to set up plants with a capacity of 5024 million liters per day (MLD). Out of these, 76 projects have been completed, the rest are in different stages.
