According to the information received from the railways, two passenger bogies and one parcel bogie have been damaged in the accident. It is being said that many people may be injured in this accident. All government and private hospitals at the site of the incident have been put on alert.

Additional SP of Darjeeling Police Abhishek Roy said, "Five passengers have died and 20-25 have been injured in the accident. The condition of many injured is critical. The accident happened when a freight train collided with the Kanchenjunga Express."

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav called it unfortunate

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has expressed grief over the accident and said that an unfortunate accident has taken place in the NFR area. Rescue operations are going on on a war footing.
