Tomato Price: In the last one month, the price of tomato in Delhi has increased by Rs 37 per kg. On the other hand, if we talk about the average price across the country, it has increased by more than Rs 18. These conditions are only of government prices, which are issued by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. Now a big announcement has been made by the government to give relief to the common people. Giving relief to the common people, the central government has announced to sell tomatoes at Rs 60 per kg. The responsibility of this has been given to the National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India i.e. NCCF. NCCF will start selling tomatoes at a discounted rate from its centers from July 29. The move comes at a time when tomato prices have surged due to supply disruptions caused by recent rains in producing centres. The NCCF said in a statement that the facility will start on July 29, 2024 and will gradually expand to other places in Delhi-NCR in the coming days.Tomatoes become costlier by Rs 37According to data from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, retail tomato prices in Delhi were Rs 77 per kg on July 27, but prices have gone up to more than Rs 90 to Rs 100 per kg in some areas depending on quality and locality. If we look at the government data, tomato prices have increased by Rs 37 per kg in the month of July itself. On June 30, the price of government tomatoes in Delhi was Rs 40 per kg, which was Rs 10 per kg less than the price of onion. Whereas on Saturday, the price of onion was seen at Rs 50 only. On the other hand, if we talk about the average prices of the whole country, then the price of tomato has increased by Rs 18.20 per kg. On June 30, the average price was Rs 50.82 per kg.Where will you get cheap tomatoes?The association said that subsidized tomatoes will be available at various places including Krishi Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodhi Colony, Hauz Khas, Sansad Marg, INA Market and many areas of Noida, Rohini and Gurugram. The aim of this initiative is to stabilize the market and provide adequate relief in cost to consumers. NCCF said that this intervention underlines the efforts of the government to reduce the impact of rising food prices on consumers.
