Artificial Rain: In view of the poisonous air in Delhi-NCR, the Kejriwal government has decided to make artificial rain here. Artificial rain can be made here on 20th and 21st November. IIT Kanpur conducted trials for this. After the trial, its report has been submitted to the Delhi government. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has confirmed this. It has been claimed that with the help of artificial rain, pollution can be controlled and the level of pollution will reduce.

In such a situation, the question is what is artificial rain, to what extent will it reduce pollution, how will it be done and in how many countries of the world is this process used.

What is artificial rain?

With the help of chemicals, clouds are prepared to cause rain. The rain caused through this is called artificial rain. However, this is not an easy process. Many types of permissions are required for this. In many countries of the world, there has been a trend of making artificial rain when needed, like China.

How is artificial rain made?

Now let us understand how artificial rain is made. Science says that for such rain to occur, it is necessary to have a few natural clouds in the sky.

Planes are used for artificial rain. Through these, silver iodide, salt and dry ice are released into the clouds already present in the sky. This is called cloud seeding. Where it is dropped, the chemical is released, taking the ship in the opposite direction. The salt particles pull the vapor present in the clouds. Along with this, moisture also gets sucked away. It collects and takes the form of rain drops. And when the pressure increases, it becomes rain and falls.

Due to this, pressure builds up and it rains. For this, permission will have to be taken from DGCA along with government agencies.

Will artificial rain clean Delhi's air?

Professor Mahindra Aggarwal of IIT Kanpur, the project lead for artificial rain in Delhi-NCR, says that artificial rain can temporarily help in dealing with the current situation. This can provide relief for a few days to a few weeks. Many other reports have said that it provides relief from poisonous air to some extent, but it does not last for a very long time.

When is it best to shower?

It is easy to make artificial rain before and after monsoon because there is more moisture in the clouds. But due to less moisture in winter, cloud seeding is not as successful. Artificial rain is being used not only to clean the air but also to extinguish fires and prevent drought. Experiments are continuing in many countries.

When was the concept of artificial rain ready?

The concept of cloud seeding, which provides artificial rain for the first time in the world, was developed in 1945. Today this process is being used in 50 countries of the world. According to a report, for the first time in India, artificial rain was created through cloud seeding in 1951. After this, in 1973, it was used to find a solution to the drought in Andhra Pradesh. Then this experiment happened in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Not only this, in 2008, artificial rain was made in the Beijing Olympics in China with the help of cloud seeding through 21 aircraft.
