ICC New Rule: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to make the stop clock rule, which was implemented on a trial basis before the T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the month of June, permanent. In December 2023, the ICC had implemented this rule as a trial, in which the fielding team had to start the second over within the stipulated time after the end of one over. Fielding teams will have to suffer huge losses for violation of this rule. ICC has implemented this rule not only in T20 but also in ODI.

Next over has to start within a minute

Talking about the stop clock rule, when the ICC implemented it in December last year, the fielding team in T20 would get only 60 seconds after the end of one over to start the next over, in which they would have to bat for the first time. The ball will have to be thrown. The third umpire will start the stop watch after the end of the over. If the fielding team is successful in bowling the first ball of the next over within 1 minute, then it will have to face only two warnings from the umpire, but after that the fielding team will be penalized which will be 5 runs. At the same time, the decision to implement stop watch will be on the umpires in which they will also see whether there is a delay in starting the over because of the batsmen or because of DRS. According to the report of Cricbuzz, ICC has implemented it permanently in T20 as well as ODI.

ICC found this rule beneficial

Several ICC meetings are currently going on in Dubai, in which this rule was also discussed, the trial of which was ending in April. The ICC Cricket Committee found the stop clock rule correct due to which the fielding team is not wasting much time while bowling the overs in the match, due to which the match is ending on time. Let us tell you that the first match of T20 World Cup 2024 will be played on June 1, with which this rule will also be implemented permanently.
