The building collapsed while classes were going on

Actually, students reached Saints Academy College in Busa Buji community of Plateau State for studies. The school building collapsed shortly after classes started here. It is being told that many of the children injured in the accident were 15 years of age or younger. Police spokesman Alfred Alabo said that a total of 154 students were trapped, but 132 of them have been rescued. The students are being treated in various hospitals. 22 students have died in the accident.

Rescue workers deployed on the spot

Meanwhile, Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency said rescue and health workers as well as security forces were deployed to the scene immediately after the accident. Plateau State Information Commissioner Moses Ashoms said in a statement, "To ensure quick medical care, the government has instructed hospitals to prioritize treatment without documentation or payment." The state government blamed the school's weak structure and its location on the river bank for the tragedy.

There was screaming at the scene

After the accident, dozens of villagers gathered near the school. There was screaming among the people present here, while some were seen asking for help. Apart from this, rescue workers are trying to pull out the students from inside the rubble. Let us tell you that the collapse of buildings has become common in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country. More than a dozen such incidents have been recorded in the last two years. Officials often blame failure to implement building safety rules and poor maintenance for such disasters.
