A major road accident has occurred in Kawardha, Chhattisgarh. The pickup of the workers who had gone to pluck tendu leaves went out of control and fell into a 20 feet deep pit. In the accident, 18 laborers died after being crushed under the pickup, while four were seriously injured. As soon as information about the accident was received, the police-administration team reached the spot.

Road Accident: A major road accident has occurred in Kawardha, Chhattisgarh. The pickup of the workers who had gone to pluck tendu leaves went out of control and fell into a 20 feet deep pit. In the accident, 18 laborers died after being crushed under the pickup, while four were seriously injured. As soon as information about the accident was received, the police-administration team reached the spot. The police launched a rescue operation and somehow pulled out the laborers buried under the pickup and admitted them to nearby hospitals, where they are being treated. A video of the accident has also surfaced, in which workers are seen lying near the pickup.

The accident took place in Bahapani village of Kukdur police station area of Kabirdham district. On Monday afternoon, around 2.30 pm, the workers were returning in a pickup after plucking tendu leaves from the forest. There were about 40 laborers in the pickup. Meanwhile, the pickup went out of control on the way and fell into a 20 feet deep pit. 18 laborers were crushed to death in the accident. Four laborers were seriously injured.

There was screams in the forest after the accident

There was hue and cry on the spot after the accident. Hearing the screams, people from nearby villages reached the spot. People informed this to the nearby police station. On receiving the information, the police reached the police station, informed the top officials about the incident and started pulling out the workers from under the pickup with the help of the local people. After some time, top officials along with police forces from other police stations also reached the spot and admitted all the injured laborers to nearby hospitals.

Villagers informed about the accident

All the people traveling in the pickup are residents of Semhara village. In this season the villagers do the work of collecting tendu leaves. On Monday morning, about 40 Baiga tribal men and women had gone to the forest to pluck tendu leaves in a pickup. Were returning at around 2.30 in the afternoon. Meanwhile, near Bahapani village, the vehicle went out of control and fell into a 20 feet deep pit on the roadside, due to which this tragic accident occurred. Villagers told that 18 male and female laborers died in the accident. Four people were injured there. With the help of police and ambulance, the injured were admitted to the hospital.

Home Minister Vijay Sharma going to Kawardha

Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma has left for Kawardha directly from Raipur. He will go to Kawardha and meet the injured. Vijay Sharma is also the MLA of Kawardha. After the accident, he immediately canceled the meeting and left for Kawardha. District SP Abhishek Pallav said that among the dead were 14 women and four men, while four people were injured. All of them are undergoing treatment in the hospital.

CM Vishnudev Sai expressed grief over the accident

After the accident, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai expressed grief by tweeting on 'X'. He wrote, “The sad news is being received about the death of 18 villagers and injuries to 4 due to a pickup overturning near Bahpani village of Kukdur police station area of Kabirdham district. Necessary instructions have been given to the district administration for better treatment of the injured. I pray to God for the peace of the departed souls and express my deep condolences to their family. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.
