Imran Khan News: Before the elections to be held on February 8 in Pakistan, former PM Imran Khan has suffered another big shock. Pakistani court has declared the marriage of Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi illegal and has sentenced both of them to 7 years in jail. This was the third adverse verdict this week against the controversial former Prime Minister. Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Khan were sentenced to seven years in jail and fined by a court on Saturday as their 2018 marriage violated the law. The already jailed Khan, 71, was recently sentenced to 10 years for leaking state secrets and 14 years for illegally selling state gifts to his wife.

Both were fined 5 lakh rupees ($1,800), according to the report. Bushra was accused of divorcing her previous husband and not completing the waiting period prescribed by Islam, called "iddat", after marrying Khan. The Khans signed their marriage contract, called a "nikah", in a secret ceremony in January 2018, seven months before the former cricket star became Prime Minister for the first time. There was controversy as to whether they had married before the completion of the period.

Imran and Bushra both are in jail

At present both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are lodged in separate jails. Imran's party confirmed this in January, weeks after its initial denial. Currently, Imran Khan is in Rawalpindi's Garrison City jail, while his wife was allowed to serve her sentence at their hilltop mansion in Islamabad. Imran Khan already faces 10 years of disqualification from holding public office. It was not immediately clear whether the sentences would run concurrently or sequentially.
