A senior official confirmed the release of this Zubair. Mohammad Zubair has been released from Tihar, the official said. Significantly, several FIRs have been registered against Zubair in Uttar Pradesh for hurting religious sentiments. Out of these, two FIRs have been registered in Hathras while one each in Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad and Chandauli.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Zubair observing that the power of arrest should be exercised with utmost restraint. The top court said it does not see any justification for depriving Zubair of his freedom. Apart from this, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the Uttar Pradesh Police has also been ordered to be abolished. Not only this, the Supreme Court had refused to stay Zubair's tweet. The court had said that it would be like asking a lawyer not to argue.
