UNSC Member / This country supported India's permanent membership in UNSC - this is worrying China

UNSC Member: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's stature is continuously increasing in the world. Many big countries of the world have been impressed by the charismatic leadership of PM Modi. These include the names of powerful countries like America, France, Britain, Japan, Australia, Africa and Saudi Arabia. That is why now the demand for making India a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has gained momentum. Now the name of Belgium has also been added to this list of countries supporting India. Former Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme has strongly advocated for India to be made a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), saying that such a move will increase the legitimacy and representation of the Council. Here, China is becoming worried due to the continuously increasing support towards India. China is the only country in the UNSC which opposes India's permanent membership.

Leterme said that the UNSC needs to adapt to the realities of the 21st century. He praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for raising India's geopolitical stature and said that the country has created a strong position in the multilateral arena. Leterme praised the new connectivity initiative 'India West Asia Europe Economic Corridor' (IMEC) and described it as complementary to China's 'Belt and Road' Initiative (BRI). "This corridor complements and complements China's initiative," he said. Leterme cited the geopolitical fallout of the Ukraine-Russia conflict and advocated for more equitable roles in multilateral institutions. He particularly urged greater participation of India, Brazil and African countries.

Brazil's claim along with India is also strong

Highlighting the imperative for a more prominent role for India in multilateralism, Leterme said, "If the (UN) Security Council is expanded to include India and Brazil in addition to its five permanent members (Russia, Britain, China, France and the US), If the Council is also included, the legitimacy of the work done by the Council will increase and it will be better represented. You cannot deal with the problems of the 21st century with the systems and solutions of the 20th century." Supporting India's bid for permanent membership of the UNSC, Leterme said, "There is a need to restructure the UN Security Council so that India , Brazil and some other emerging countries to have the right to have their say and influence the decision-making process.
