Independents have been winning in Pundri since 1996, Nuh till 2005, Nilokheri till 2019, and Hathin till 2009. Independent candidates have been holding these seats for a long time, and the number of independent MLAs in the state also keeps fluctuating.

Independents dominate these seats

1. Pundri - Independents have been winning the Pundri assembly seat of Kaithal district since 1996. Independent candidates have won this seat 7 times so far. Ishwar Singh won as an independent for the first time in 1968. Singh had defeated Congress candidate Tara Singh at that time.

Ishwar Singh joined the Congress after winning as an independent. In 1996, Narendra Sharma won this seat as an independent for the second time. Since then, no candidate of any party has won here.

Tejveer Singh won from Pundri seat in 2000, Dinesh Kaushik in 2005 and 2014, Sultan in 2009 and Randhir Singh Golen in 2019. In 2019, Golen defeated Satbir Bhama of Congress.

2. Nuh- Gurugram Lok Sabha's Nuh assembly seat is also considered suitable for independents. So far, independent MLAs have won from here and reached the assembly 5 times. In 1967, Rahim Khan won from here as an independent for the first time. He defeated Khurshid Ahmed of Congress.

In 1972, Rahim Khan again won from this seat as an independent. This time too he defeated Khurshid Ahmed of Congress. In the 1982 by-election, Rahim Khan won from here as an independent for the third time. In the 1989 by-election, Hasan Mohammad won as an independent from Nuh seat.

However, after this, the seat remained occupied by parties for 16 years. In 2005, independent Habibur Rehman again won as an independent. The population of Muslims is high in Nuh seat.

3. Nilokheri- Independents have also dominated the Nilokheri seat of Karnal. So far, independent MLAs have won from here and reached the House 5 times. Chanda Singh won this seat for the first time in 1968 as an independent candidate. Singh defeated Ram Swaroop Giri of Congress in this election.

In 1982, Chanda Singh was elected as an independent MLA from this seat for the second time. In 1987, Jai Singh Rana defeated Chanda Singh by contesting as an independent. Rana also won this seat as an independent in 1991. However, after this he joined the Congress.

In 2019, an independent again won from this seat. Dharam Pal Gondar fought as an independent candidate and snatched this seat from BJP's Bhagwan Das.

4. Hathin- Independent candidates have won from Hathin seat of Palwal district 4 times and reached the assembly. Hemraj won from here for the first time in 1968 as an independent candidate. He defeated Devi Singh Tewatia of Congress in this election.

In the 1972 elections, Hemraj contested on the Congress symbol. This time he was defeated by independent Ramji Lal. Interestingly, in the following years, when Ramji Lal contested on a Congress ticket, he was defeated.

In 2005, independent Harsh Kumar won from this seat. Harsh defeated Chaudhary Jaleb Khan of Congress. In 2009, Jaleb Khan contested as an independent and defeated Harsh who contested on the Congress symbol.

Independents have also dominated the state

In 2009 and 2019, independent MLAs also played a big role in forming the government.
