In Gandhi Nagar area on Sunday morning, two people who had come down to collect goods in the basement of a shop died of suffocation after being hit by a chemical. The deceased have been identified as Vaibhav Kathuria (22) and Zakir (40). In the basement, wooden sticks were kept for making cart-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws. To protect them from termites, some chemical was sprayed on it.On Sunday morning, Vaibhav, the only son of the employee Zakir and the shop owner, went inside to get the goods. As soon as they reached down, both became unconscious. When both did not return for a long time, they were seen. Later the matter was reported to the police. The police, with the help of the public, pulled both of them out of the basement and rushed them to the nearest hospital, where both were declared brought dead. Gandhi Nagar police station has started investigation by registering a case of death due to larvahi. Apart from the crime team, the FSL team has collected evidence from the spot. Police is investigating the matter by interrogating other people besides other employees.According to the police, Rakesh Kathuria (50) lives with the family in two-block, Geeta Colony area. Apart from his wife and a daughter, he had son Vaibhav in his family. Father-son had the work of making cycle rickshaws and handcarts in Gandhi Nagar Main Road, Kailash Nagar. He has a shop on the main road by the name of RK Trading. Here Zakir used to work as a handicraft maker. Rakesh had made a narrow basement under the shop. In which wood and other things were kept. To save the wood from the lamp, Rakesh had sprayed some chemical on it.Abrar, an employee working at the shop, said that he opened the shop around 10.30 in the morning and went out to collect the goods. Meanwhile, Zakir and Vaibhav got down to pick up the items from the basement to start the work. But the ladder inside broke down and both of them fell inside. When Vaibhav went inside at 10.45 and Zakir did not come out, there was some doubt. On peeping inside, both were found lying unconscious in the basement.Rakesh made a noise. The matter was reported to the police at around 11.30 am. Police personnel and local people who reached the spot somehow pulled Rakesh and Zakir out of the basement. Both were taken to Jag Pravesh Chand Hospital, where both were declared brought dead. The police have taken both the bodies in their possession and sent them for post-mortem. Police found rickshaw-making material and some chemicals kept there from the basement. The matter is being investigated by taking them into custody. Senior police officers say that Zakir New Usmanpur, originally from Bihar, lived with a rented room on the second butt. The police have informed his family members about the accident.
