Haryana Election 2024: With the announcement of the dates for the Haryana assembly elections, political parties have started finalizing their election strategies. Kaithal seat holds special importance among the total 90 assembly seats in the state. This seat is considered to be the stronghold of the family of Congress stalwart Randeep Surjewala, but in 2019, BJP broke this stronghold and won. Now in the 2024 assembly elections, it will be interesting to see who the people of Kaithal support.

Election process and dates

This time the assembly elections in Haryana will be held in one phase. The Election Commission has announced to issue a notification on September 5. The last date for filing nominations will be September 12 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is September 16. Voting will be held on October 1 and the results will be declared on October 4.

2019 election results

In 2019, BJP and Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) formed the government together. Kaithal seat was won by BJP's Leela Ram, he got 72,667 votes while Congress' Randeep Surjewala got 71,418 votes. The margin of victory was about 1,200 votes. Surjewala had won this seat in the 2014 assembly elections.

Voters and current situation

Haryana has a total of 2.01 crore voters, including 95 lakh women. Currently, the state is ruled by the BJP, whose term ends on November 3. The BJP had earlier formed a coalition government with the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), but the alliance broke due to disagreements over seat sharing in the Lok Sabha elections. After this, the BJP maintained its government with the support of independent MLAs. Now it remains to be seen whether the BJP wears the crown of victory for the third time in the state or the Congress returns to power here.
