New Delhi: The Delhi police on Sunday detained Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Raghav Chadha and Atishi Marlena as they tried to hold a protest near Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi LG Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal’s residences respectively. Other party MLAs who were detained include Ritu Raj, Kuldeep Kumar and Sanjeev Jha. AAP had been planning to hold ‘dharna’ to protest against alleged misappropriation of funds by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).Earlier in the day, the police denied permission to Raghav Chadha for holding a demonstration, saying that no gathering will be permitted outside Amit Shah’s house.”…Any type of gathering is not allowed outside the residence of Hon’ble Home Minister of India. Your request has been considered but rejected. You are requested to co-operate with the Delhi Police,” the Delhi Police said.“…all social/academic/sports/entertainment/cultural/religious/political functions/other gathering are prohibited up to 31.12.2020 throughout NCT of Delhi in order to prevent and control the outbreak of pandemic disease namely COVID-19,” the order added.On Saturday, Chadha has written a letter to Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police requesting for permission to hold a dharna outside the residence of Union Home Minister against alleging misappropriation of funds by NDMC. The AAP had also demanded a CBI inquiry into an alleged misappropriation of Rs 2,500 crore in the BJP-led North Delhi and South Delhi municipal corporations, and vowed to protest outside the residences of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal from Sunday until a probe is ordered.
