In the elections held in Uttar Pradesh, where the Bharatiya Janata Party got a thumping majority, the Samajwadi Party gave it a tough fight on every seat. But the Congress party, which has been trying to return to the politics of Uttar Pradesh for a long time, lost the deposits of 387 out of 399 candidates and only two candidates could save their seats. If we talk about Bahujan Samaj Party, out of 403 candidates, 290 could not save their deposits.

If we talk in percentage, then Congress got only 2.4 percent of the total votes polled in the assembly elections. That too when the party had fielded its candidates on every seat of the state except four. If we compare the Congress with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), which contested 33 seats, the RLD secured 2.9 percent of the votes, which is better than the Congress.

Bail of BJP and SP candidates also confiscated

You will be surprised to know that only the candidates of the badly losing parties have forfeited their deposits. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which came to power again with a thumping victory and fielded its candidates on 376 seats, has also forfeited the deposits of three candidates. At the same time, 6 candidates of Samajwadi Party, which fielded 347 candidates and second in terms of seats, could not save their deposits.

Not a single candidate of Apna Dal and Nishad Party forfeited the security

The interesting thing is that not a single candidate of the smaller parties of BJP alliance Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Nishad Party got forfeited. A total of 27 candidates from both the parties were in the fray. This figure indicates that these two parties were given only those seats where they were likely to contest.

On the other hand, if we talk about the SP alliance, then Subhaspa and Apna Dal (Kamarawadi) had fought on a total of 25 seats, out of which 8 candidates lost their deposits. At the same time, 3 out of 33 candidates of the alliance's big party RLG could not save their deposits.

When is the candidate's security forfeited

According to the election rules, when a candidate is unable to secure even one-sixth of the total votes cast, he cannot save his security deposit. This time a total of 4442 candidates were in the fray in UP, out of which 3522 i.e. 80 percent of the candidates could not save their deposits. The security deposit is to be filled in the form of a bond at the time of filling the nomination form.
