Team India T20I Captain: After Team India's semi-final defeat in T20 World Cup 2022, there has been a constant stir. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also come into action mode. Taking a major decision on Friday night, the board sacked the selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma. Along with this, Team India captain Rohit Sharma is now on the radar, from whom the news of taking over the captaincy of the T20 International team is now coming out. However, on the current tour of New Zealand, Hardik has been made the captain by asking Rohit to be rested.

For some time now, many cricket veterans had advised Team India to have split captains. Anil Kumble had even talked about different teams and captains for white ball and red ball. Probably this has been discussed in the latest meeting of BCCI in which it was decided to fire Chetan Sharma. According to information quoted by PTI, BCCI is considering split captaincy, according to which Hardik Pandya may soon be declared as the regular captain of the T20 International team.

Hunter on the selection committee for these reasons

Let us tell you that during the tenure of the selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma, India has not been able to do anything special in any major tournament apart from the bilateral series. Not only this, the combination of the team could not be set, the captain also kept changing again and again. There were many reasons why this selection committee was dismissed. Let's know what were the main reasons behind this: -

  • 8 players captained in one year, still the perfect combination was not ready.
  • Poor performance of the team in Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022.
  • Selecting KL Rahul after a break of 8 months and making him straightaway vice-captain.
  • Instability in the team, not managing the workload of the players, injuries, frequent breaks of the captain and coach.
Well now the board is considering and it has to be seen how soon this idea turns into a decision. After the defeat in two T20 World Cups and Asia Cup, the team management will have to think differently. At this point of time, Hardik seems to be the only option to make a difference, just like how MS Dhoni took over the team in 2007. Right now everything is good in the team and some is not so good. Both the things are right in their place, even if the players of the team praise the environment created by Rohit-Dravid, but the performance is not coming that way. Now it has to be seen what will be the final decision of BCCI.

Hardik matured as captain

Ever since Hardik Pandya was made the captain of Gujarat Titans for IPL 2022, he has started looking quite mature since then. He has become more responsible as a player and especially as a batsman. His performance has improved a lot. Under his captaincy, Gujarat won the IPL title in the first season itself. Apart from this, he had captained in three matches before New Zealand in international cricket. His captaincy record is 100 per cent. In the same year, he won two matches against Ireland and one match against West Indies under his captaincy.
