In this match, Nathan Lyon created history, becoming the third Australian and 8th cricketer overall to take 500 wickets in his Test career.

How was the match?

Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon became the fourth spinner in the history of cricket to take 500 Test wickets. Lyon completed his feat with the wicket of Faheem Ashraf at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, 17 December. Lyon had to wait for a long time to take his 500th wicket in the second innings. Lyon took his 500th and 501st wickets while bowling his 7th over, as Australia's fast bowlers completely dismantled Pakistan's top and middle order.

The spinner joins Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath in the list to become the third Australian bowler to reach the feat. Lyon came to the Test match with 496 wickets in his name. The spinner took 3 wickets in the first innings, dismissing Abdullah Shafiq, Imam-ul-Haq and Aamir Jamal. Lyon worked hard to reach this milestone in the first innings itself but Travis Head wrapped up the Pakistan team by taking the wicket of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Lyon missed by just one wicket.
