Delhi Election 2025: The water dispute has once again gained momentum amid the election atmosphere in the country's capital Delhi. There are fierce allegations and counter-allegations between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of Delhi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of Haryana regarding the increased ammonia level in the Yamuna river. This dispute has opened new fronts of politics, in which on one hand the Chief Ministers of Delhi and Punjab have reached the Election Commission, while on the other hand the Chief Minister of Haryana has retaliated in strong words.

Ammonia dispute in Yamuna: AAP's allegation

The Aam Aadmi Party has accused Haryana of deliberately spreading pollution in the Yamuna river. The party says that the level of ammonia in the water coming from Haryana has increased dangerously, affecting the water supply in Delhi. On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann lodged a complaint with the Election Commission on this issue. AAP termed it a conspiracy and said that this step has been taken to inconvenience the public in the election environment.

Haryana's counter-attack: "AAP is spreading lies"

Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini targeted Arvind Kejriwal, rejecting the allegations of Aam Aadmi Party. Addressing a public meeting in Narela assembly constituency, Saini said that Kejriwal is spreading lies. He said, "Our government never allowed water problem. This is the same holy Yamuna in which Lord Krishna purified it by killing Kaliya Nag. But Kejriwal has tainted the holy land of Haryana for his politics."

Saini assured the public from the stage of the election rally that the Haryana government is committed to keeping the Yamuna clean and clear. He said that AAP is making such allegations only to gain electoral advantage.

Water becomes a weapon in electoral politics

The water dispute between Delhi and Haryana is not new. But this time this issue is playing an important role in electoral politics. Aam Aadmi Party is taking this dispute to the public and calling it the failure of the Haryana government, while the Haryana government is dismissing it as a political ploy.

Experts say that the issue of increasing pollution in Yamuna is not just a state problem, but it is an interstate issue, which all parties will have to work together to solve. However, in the election environment, this dispute between the two parties does not seem to be resolved soon.

What is the solution?

The issue of pollution of Yamuna river should not be limited to politics only. It is the need of the hour that the Central Government, Delhi and Haryana come together and make a common plan. There is a need to take concrete steps towards cleaning the river and controlling pollution through scientific and technical measures.

Apart from political rhetoric and allegations and counter-allegations, the public hopes that the ruling and opposition parties will work together to save a life-giving river like Yamuna. But the question is whether this will be possible by rising above electoral politics?
