Paper Leak Law: Amid the CBI investigation into the NEET paper leak, the Maharashtra government has taken a big decision. The Eknath Shinde government of the state has introduced a bill to prevent irregularities in competitive examinations. The main objective of this bill is to prevent irregularities in competitive examinations. This bill provides for a jail term of up to 5 years for those found guilty of paper leak or irregularities.

Minister Shambhuraj Desai introduced the 'Maharashtra Competitive Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024' bill in the Assembly. In the bill, crimes related to competitive examinations will be cognizable, non-bailable and non-compoundable. Those found involved in unfair means and crimes in competitive examinations will be sentenced to a minimum of three years imprisonment. Which can be increased to five years and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh can be imposed.

This provision will be applicable on non-payment of fine

In case of non-payment of fine, additional punishment of imprisonment will be given as per the provisions of the Indian Justice Code 2023. The bill includes making provisions to avoid disruption in the conduct of competitive examinations, fixing the duties of those who set the question papers, empowering officers of the rank below Deputy Superintendent of Police or Assistant Commissioner of Police to investigate the crime.

CBI is camping in two states

CBI investigation is going on from Bihar to Gujarat in the NEET paper leak case. One CBI team is camping in Patna, the capital of Bihar, while the other is in Godhra, Gujarat. Many people have also been arrested by the CBI so far. The principal and vice principal of Oasis School in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand have also been arrested by the CBI.

Hearing is also going on in the Supreme Court regarding this matter. On Friday, the Ministry of Education filed an affidavit. In which it has been clarified that the government and its bodies are committed to conduct all competitive examinations in a correct and transparent manner. Keeping the question papers confidential in view of the examinations is the biggest priority of the government. The government said that the criminal elements who have breached the confidentiality of the question papers. The government will punish them by taking action with the full force of the law.
