New Delhi: The central government has taken a big decision for the farmers of the country. The Modi government has increased the subsidy for farmers on DAP by more than double. Now they will be given a subsidy of Rs 1200 per bag instead of Rs 500 per bag. This decision has been taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The central government has taken this decision at a time when the government has recently faced resentment and agitation over amendments in agricultural laws.

In a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday, "PM Modi held a high level meeting on the price of fertilizers." He emphasized that despite increasing international prices, farmers get fertilizers at the same price. It was decided that instead of Rs 500 per bag on DAP, farmers will now be given a subsidy of Rs 1200 per bag.

This decision of the government is being seen as an attempt to allay the displeasure of the farmers. The government has been facing agitation since last year for amending the three agricultural laws. Recently, in the local elections held in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party has suffered a major setback. Especially in western Uttar Pradesh, the way the BJP got frustrated, it was seen to be related to the resentment of the farmers.
