Parliament Winter Session: The winter session of the Parliament of India has started on Monday. Political and legislative activities have been gaining momentum since the beginning of this session, as assembly elections have recently been concluded in two important states of the country, Maharashtra and Jharkhand. In Maharashtra, the BJP-led NDA alliance won a big victory, while in Jharkhand, the Hemant Soren-led JMM alliance was victorious. The results of these elections have filled the BJP MPs in Parliament with new zeal and enthusiasm, while the opposition has questioned the government on many important issues.

Adjournment of proceedings in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha

The proceedings of both the Houses were adjourned at the beginning of the winter session. The Lok Sabha first paid tribute to the late MPs Vasant Rao Chavan, Nurul Islam, MM Lawrence, M Parvati and Harish Chandra Deorao Chavan, after which the session was adjourned. On the other hand, opposition MPs created a ruckus in the Rajya Sabha over the allegations against the Adani Group, resulting in the adjournment of the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha as well. The opposition alleges that there should be a serious discussion on this matter in Parliament, but the Speaker rejected the notice on this, which increased the controversy and tension. Now the proceedings of both the Houses will resume from Wednesday, November 27.

All-party meeting organized

An all-party meeting was held on Sunday before the winter session, in which 42 leaders of 30 political parties participated. In this meeting chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, leaders of various parties discussed the issues to be raised in the Parliament session. Opposition parties demanded a discussion in Parliament regarding the investigation of the allegations leveled in the US against the Adani Group. At the same time, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified that the matters to be raised in Parliament will be decided only with the consent of the concerned Speaker, and the government appealed to all parties to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.

Active opposition from opposition MPs

Congress MP Hibi Eden gave an adjournment motion notice for discussion on the Adani issue in the Lok Sabha, in which he demanded the government to clarify its stand on the matter. At the same time, he stressed the need for a fair investigation to maintain the democratic and economic integrity of India. Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ram Gopal Yadav focused on the violence in Sambhal district of UP and called it completely the result of the negligence of the district administration.

SP MPs Dharmendra Yadav and Awadhesh Prasad also called the incident sad and demanded the UP government not to let such incidents happen again. MPs of opposition parties created a ruckus in the House over these issues and said there is a need for in-depth discussion on them.

Possibility of discussion on Waqf Bill

The Waqf Amendment Bill is also expected to be discussed in this winter session. Jagdambika Pal, chairman of the joint committee considering this bill, said that the report is ready and efforts will be made to build consensus among all the members. However, opposition MPs have demanded an extension of the committee's tenure till November 29, so that this bill can be discussed in detail. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee met the Lok Sabha Speaker and sought an extension of time as he feels the report has been prepared in a hurry and all parties should be heard.

Digital signature system introduced

A new initiative has been taken by the Lok Sabha under which MPs will now have to use digital pens to mark their attendance. Under this, MPs will now have to sign on an electronic tab, which will record their attendance. This change is a step towards digitally tracking the attendance of MPs and has been implemented in place of the traditional mobile app.

Conclusion

The winter session of Parliament seems to be full of important issues and controversies. While the government is set to discuss new bills, opposition parties are demanding discussion on many serious issues. In this session, there is a possibility of intense debate on issues like allegations against the Adani Group, Waqf Amendment Bill and Sambhal violence. This session will be important to consider many important aspects of politics and society.
