JAIPUR: A 15-year-old girl met Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday during the ‘Jan Sunvai’ programme and appealed to him to stop her marriage. The girl from a village in Tonk district is a student of Class X and is being brought up by her uncle after the death of her mother.

“Her mother died immediately after giving birth due to pregnancy related complications. Since then, I have been looking after her. Her father, my elder brother, did not take any interest in his own daughter’s upbringing and wanted to marry her off. She doesn’t want to get married and wants to study further. So, we met the CM to sought his help in the matter,” her uncle Ram Narayan (name changed) told TOI.

Taking note of the matter, the CM directed officials to ensure that the girl is not married off. Following this, the officials gave necessary instructions to the district collector and Tonk SP. In an official statement, Gehlot asked the girl to focus on studies and assured her full support of the government.

“We are grateful to our CM and my niece can pursue the dream of studying further till she wants. She will get married only after turning 18 years old. She wants to pursue engineering,” the girl’s uncle said.
