Kota Student Suicidet: Kota in Rajasthan, known as a coaching hub, is facing a serious problem these days. Here, news of suicide by coaching students is coming out every day, which has created an atmosphere of concern across the country. Recently, 20-year-old Abhishek, a resident of Guna in Madhya Pradesh, committed suicide by hanging himself in his room in Vigyan Nagar area of Kota.

Sequence of incidents

According to the police, Abhishek was preparing for JEE Advanced in Kota since May 2023. When Abhishek's family called him and he did not answer, they informed his PG operator. When the operator inspected the room, he found Abhishek hanging from the noose.

This case is not the only one. Earlier, 19-year-old Neeraj, a resident of Mahendragarh in Haryana, also committed suicide by hanging himself in his room. Neeraj was preparing for JEE by staying in Kota for the last two years.

Falling number of students and revenue in Kota

The increasing cases of suicides in Kota have affected both the image and economy of this city. There was a time when about 2.5 lakh students used to come here for coaching, but this number has now come down to 85,000 to one lakh. This has directly affected the annual revenue of Kota. Kota's revenue in 2023 was around Rs 6,500-7,000 crore, which has now been limited to Rs 3,500 crore.

Reasons for suicide and need for solution

Experts believe that mental pressure, competition and fear of failure are the main reasons behind these incidents. The pressure on students to constantly perform well, the challenge of staying away from home and not getting proper mental support is increasing this crisis.

The state and central government need to take concrete steps to prevent these incidents. Appointment of mental health counselors in coaching institutes, ensuring time for recreation and relaxation for students, and reducing the pressure of performance on children by parents can be some effective solutions.

Conclusion

The incidents of student suicide in Kota reflect the failure of not only one city but the entire education system. It is time that we change the education system and social mindset to provide a healthy and inspiring environment to the students. We can find a solution to this problem only by giving priority to the safety and mental health of the students.
