Delhi Airport: A SpiceJet aircraft caught fire during engine maintenance work at the Delhi airport on Tuesday. The airline company said that the staff handling the maintenance of the aircraft and the aircraft are safe. SpiceJet spokesperson informed that "On July 25, SpiceJet Q400 aircraft under maintenance, while performing engine ground run at idle power, AME observed fire warning on 1 engine. On seeing this, the aircraft's fire extinguisher bottle was discharged. Fire brigade was called as a precaution. The aircraft and all maintenance personnel are safe."A video of the incident also surfaced on social media, which is going viral and garnering attention of people online.Watch video
Earlier in the day, the DGCA had announced that it would remove SpiceJet from "advanced surveillance", which it was placed under following several incidents in the last monsoon regarding maintenance of the aircraft.Indigo plane's engine caught fireIn October last year, an emergency was declared at the Delhi airport after one of the engines of an IndiGo aircraft caught fire while taxiing.
