Congress News: After the Lok Sabha elections, the old grand party Congress has started surgery in its organization. It has started with Mahila Congress and student unit NSUI. The party has changed the president of NSUI in 9 states, while the head of Mahila Congress has been changed in 3 states. Congress organization general secretary KC Venugopal has also issued a letter in this regard. After these changes in the student organization and Mahila Congress, the discussion has intensified whether there will be changes in the main organization of the party as well? If yes, then where?

Changes in NSUI and Mahila Congress

1. In the states where Congress has changed the president of NSUI, the performance of the party was very poor in the recent Lok Sabha elections. For example, Congress has changed the presidents of NSUI in Bihar, Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Delhi, Telangana and Himachal. A few days ago, the party had also changed the president of NSUI in Rajasthan. Congress was reduced to zero seats in Bengal, Odisha, Delhi and Himachal, while its performance was very poor in Bihar and Jharkhand. Congress's seats increased in Rajasthan and Telangana, but it did not win as per expectations.

2. According to survey agency CSDS, 27 percent of people had called unemployment an issue in this Lok Sabha election. It was also effective in states like UP, but the student unit of Congress could not make it an issue in states like Bihar, Bengal, Odisha, Delhi, Himachal and Telangana. According to CSDS, despite the displeasure of the students, BJP maintained the votes of the youth. In 2019, the party got 40 percent votes of 18-25 year old voters, in 2024 this number was 39 percent.

3. Congress has also taken care of caste equations in the appointments of NSUI. For example, Vinay Oraon of tribal community in Jharkhand, Jaishankar Prasad of Yadav community in Bihar, Abhinandan Thakur of Rajput community have been made the president of Himachal student unit. The party has also implemented the formula of one post-one person. YV Swamy has been made the President of NSUI by removing B Vacant, who was made MLC in Telangana.

4. The appointment of 3 presidents in Mahila Congress is being seen as a reward. Nandita Hooda, appointed as the President of Chandigarh Mahila Congress, was made the acting president before the Lok Sabha. Here the women's organizations did a great job and the party was able to win the Chandigarh seat after 10 years. Similarly, Soumya Reddy, who fought strongly in Bengaluru, has been appointed by the party as the President of Karnataka Mahila Congress. Soumya belongs to DK Shivakumar faction and her appointment has been made in view of the Panchayat and Municipal elections.

Will there be changes in the main organizations of Congress as well?

This has been in discussion since Mallikarjun Kharge became the President in the year 2022. After the Lok Sabha elections, its buzz became more intense. The reason is the poor performance of the party in many states. In states like Telangana and Karnataka, the state president has 2 posts each. Due to this, there is also talk of change in these states.

These changes have been discussed for a long time inside and outside the Congress, but the way the appointments have been made within the NSUI and Mahila Congress presidents, it is being said that changes may soon happen in the main organization as well.

If there are changes, can they lose their positions?

In NSUI, the presidents of those states have been removed, where the performance of Congress was very poor. If the same pattern is applied in the main organization, then states like Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal can get new presidents. Currently, Akhilesh Prasad Singh is the president in Bihar, Deepak Baij in Chhattisgarh, Jitu Patwari in Madhya Pradesh and Pratibha Singh in Himachal.

Old presidents have already been removed in Odisha and Bengal. In such a situation, new presidents have to be appointed here too. Bengal Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir has said that the process of appointing new presidents has started. Bengal will soon get a new president.

Congress' performance has been poor in Jharkhand and Delhi too, but different arguments are being given for these two states. Devendra Yadav got the command just before the elections in Delhi, while assembly elections are to be held in Jharkhand after 2 months.

Telangana Congress President Revanth Reddy is also the Chief Minister. A similar case is in Karnataka. Here President DK Shivakumar holds the post of Deputy CM. If the formula of one post-one person is implemented in Congress, then both can be removed.

In-charges and general secretaries of many states are also on the radar

In UP, three big posts of Congress are occupied by upper caste leaders. President Ajay Rai (Bhumihar), leader of legislative party Aradhana Mishra (Brahmin) and general secretary Avinash Pandey (Brahmin). In the recent Lok Sabha elections, India Alliance registered a big victory in UP, but it got only 16 percent votes of upper castes. Since then, there is a discussion that Congress can change the general secretary here.

There is talk of changing the in-charge in Bengal and Odisha as well. Congress has proved to be a failure in both the states. Odisha in-charge Ajay Kumar also has the charge of Tamil Nadu. Similarly, Bengal in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir is the in-charge of Jharkhand.

Delhi in-charge Deepak Babaria has recently resigned. New in-charges are to be appointed here too. Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh also has the charge of Madhya Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, Congress was reduced to zero seats in this election.
