Things got worse after an argument with the people involved in the procession

In every district, the Deputy Commissioner of Police and senior police officers are holding meetings with the peace committees and appealing to the people to maintain peace and not to pay heed to rumours. Police arrested Zahid (22), Ansar (35), Shahzad (33), Salim alias Chikna (36), Mukhtiar Ali (28), Aamir (22), Aksar (26), Noor Alam (28), Mohammad Aslam, residents of Jahangirpuri. (22), Zakir (22), Akram (22), Imtiaz (29), Mohammed Al (27), Ahir (35), Mohammad Ali Sekh (22), Sheikh Saurabh (42), Suqin's son Suraj (21) And Neeraj (19), Suken (45), Suresh (43) and Sujit Sarkar (28) have been arrested. Two minors have also been arrested.

Four of the arrested accused belong to the same family. The police have arrested Aslam and one of the accused along with the pistol. All the accused are residents of different blocks of Jahangirpuri. A case of rioting, obstruction of government work, assault in the line of duty, assault, arson, murderous assault, criminal conspiracy and Arms Act has been registered against the accused.

Wherever people gathered, the police used to disperse them there. Senior police officers had ordered all the police forces to stay on the streets.

Injured Inspector told- Violence erupted after an argument with the people involved in the procession

As soon as the procession reached near the mosque located in C-Block, Jahangirpuri, at around 6 pm, a person named Ansar came along with four or five companions and started arguing with the people involved in the procession. From here the matter deteriorated and stone pelting started on both the sides. After that there was a stampede. Soon the peaceful atmosphere turned into violence. Inspector Rajiv Ranjan, who was accompanying the procession, has told this in the report given to the police.

An FIR has been registered on the complaint of Inspector Rajiv Ranjan, who was injured in the violence and posted as an investigation inspector in Jahangirpuri. He has said in the complaint that the Shobha Yatra started from E-Block Jahangirpuri at 4.15 pm and was to end at Mangal Bazar Road, Mahindra Park. The procession was going on peacefully. Everything went on peacefully for two hours. When the procession reached near Jama Masjid C-block at around six o'clock, a person named Ansar came along with four or five companions and started arguing with the people involved in the procession.

He said that both the sides were separated after persuading them to stop stone-pelting and appealing to maintain peace. But after a few minutes sloganeering and stone pelting started from both the sides. When the atmosphere got worse, the control room was informed and the police force was called on the spot.

Controlled the situation by releasing tear gas shells

It has been told in the FIR that even after the continuous appeal of the police, one side kept pelting stones. The police fired 40-50 tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. But some people in the crowd fired and pelted stones at the police. SI Medalal of police station Jahangirpuri got shot in the left hand. The rioters set a scooty on fire and vandalized four or five vehicles.

Investigating officer Jahangirpuri police sub-inspector Rajesh said that when he reached the spot, stones, broken bottles and damaged vehicles were lying there. During interrogation of the people, it was found that many people have been injured in the ruckus, who are getting treatment in private hospitals.

Home Ministry gave instructions - strict action should be taken against the rioters

After the violence in Jahangipuri area on Saturday, the Union Home Ministry has ordered strict action against the miscreants. This is the reason that after controlling the situation, the police started arresting the rioters.

A senior Delhi Police official said that the investigation into the Jahangirpuri case will be done on the same lines as the investigation into the violence in North-East Delhi. For this, the police has started collecting scientific evidence. Apart from CCTV footage, other scientific evidences including mobile-made videos, photos, mobile dump data are being collected. After this, the face recognition technology will be used to identify the accused.

A senior Delhi Police official said that whoever is behind the Jahangirpuri violence will not be spared. Different teams of police are collecting evidence. Apart from the local police, the district's special staff, AATS and special cell and crime branch teams are cooperating. During the ruckus, it was seen that apart from pelting stones from both the sides, bottles were thrown. Some miscreants also opened fire. These people have been captured on video and CCTV.

Police is making every effort to put them behind the bars. Police officials say that the accused will be identified and reached through face recognition technology.
