Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said tourism and industry would flourish in the state due to the Chess Olympiad. He also remembered PM Narendra Modi's love for chess. Stalin said he knew the PM liked chess. He said that Modi as the Chief Minister of Gujarat had organized a grand chess competition with more than 20,000 players.

36% Indian Grandmasters are from Tamil Nadu - Stalin

The PM said, "Tamil Nadu has many temples with beautiful sculptures that represent different sports. Tamil Nadu has a deep historical connection with chess. The state has produced many chess masters. It has a vibrant culture and the oldest language is 'Tamil'. ' It's home."

Earlier, five-time world chess champion Viswanathan Anand presented the torch of the Olympiad to PM Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu CM M.K. handed over to Stalin. The torch was then handed over to young Grandmaster R Pragyanand and others at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. The Olympiad will be held till August 10.
