Chhattisgarh, there is a campaign for the liberation of tobacco in various districts. Meanwhile, a shocking news has come from Surguja district. Unaware of the administration's campaign, a 9-year-old girl hanged herself for refusing to eat tobacco-gutkha. The girl felt sad that her grandmother forbade her to eat tobacco or gutkha. Dadi's advice went unnoticed to the girl and she laid down her life in a bamboo cloak behind the house, with a dupatta. A girl's family hesitates to take suicidal steps, while the police and locals are shocked.

A campaign is underway to make Serguja a tobacco-free district since 1 April. Collectors and health departments are constantly running awareness campaigns to warn people about the dangers of tobacco consumption, but the impact of this campaign is not visible in rural areas. Probably this is why a 9-year-old girl in Bithua village of Sitapur police station area of Surguja accepted the grandmother's advice.

In-charge of Sitapur Police Station, Rupesh Narang said that a 9-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging behind the house in Bithua Gram Panchayat. When the police arrived after the information about the case, they were surprised to find out the reason for the incident. Police immediately captured the body of the girl and sent it for postmortem. Later her grandmother was called, who gave a statement in the police station that her 9-year-old granddaughter used to consume tobacco, gutkha etc. In the past, grandmother advised her granddaughter not to eat tobacco-gutkha. Because of this, he hanged himself.

Based on the statement of the girl's grandmother, the police have properly established and started investigating the case. Sitapur police station in-charge Rupesh Narang said the body of the girl has been sent to Sitapur Community Health Center for postmortem.
