Telangana News: Telangana's Revanth Reddy government has taken a big decision and decided to waive the loans of farmers before the deadline of August 15. The cabinet has approved the waiver of agricultural loans worth Rs 31,000 crore. In this regard, a cabinet meeting was held under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, after which the CM said that the government will waive the loans of farmers before August 15. Meanwhile, on Saturday, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi congratulated the farmers of Telangana.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, 'Congratulations to the farmer families of Telangana. The Congress government has taken a historic step towards fulfilling the resolution of Kisan Nyay by waiving all your loans up to Rs 2 lakh, which will make more than 40 lakh farmer families debt free. Whatever was said, it was done, this is the intention and habit too.'

47 lakh farmers will benefit from loan waiver

He said, 'Congress government means the guarantee of spending the state treasury in strengthening the deprived society including farmers and laborers, an example of which is this decision of the Telangana government. Our promise is that wherever Congress is in power, it will spend India's wealth on Indians, not on capitalists.'

The loan waiver decision is likely to benefit 47 lakh farmers of Telangana. The Chief Minister's framework for loan waiver will be notified soon. During the assembly elections, the Congress had promised the people of Telangana that if its government comes to power in the state, it will waive the loans of farmers. It is being said that this promise of Congress helped the party a lot in registering victory in the state. Telangana CM and State Congress Committee President Revanth Reddy had promised during the Lok Sabha election campaign that the loan waiver scheme would be completed before August 15.

From when to when did the government waive loans?

CM Reddy said that the Congress party always stands by its promises. Our leader Sonia Gandhi had promised to create a separate Telangana state and we fulfilled it. Similarly, Rahul Gandhi had promised loan waiver during the farmers' manifesto in Warangal in 2022. We are going to fulfill this promise as well. The KCR government has waived agricultural loans worth Rs 28,000 crore in 10 years. They released the money in four phases in both the tenures, but we have decided to repay the dues in one go.

In fact, the government will repay the agricultural loans taken from 12 December 2018 to 9 December 2023. The government is considering setting up a separate corporation to raise the funds required for this scheme.
