Hemant Soren News: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and JMM leader Hemant Soren has been released from Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi. Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 this year in the land scam case. He has now been released after getting bail from the Jharkhand High Court on Friday. Hemant Soren resigned from the post of Chief Minister a few hours before his arrest on January 31. After he went to jail, Champai Soren was made the new Chief Minister of the state.

The High Court had reserved its decision on Soren's bail plea on June 13. The order passed by a single bench of Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyay said that the petitioner is directed to be released on bail on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount.

What did Soren's lawyer say on the court order?

Senior lawyer Arunabh Chaudhary of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) working president Soren Soren had told that the former CM has been granted bail. He said that the court has said that prima facie, he is not guilty and there is no possibility of the petitioner committing any crime while being released on bail. The lawyer said that advocate Zohaib Hussain, representing the ED, requested a stay on the implementation of the single bench order for 48 hours so that the decision could be challenged in the High Court, but the High Court rejected this request.

ED had opposed the release

During the hearing in the High Court, ED lawyer SV Raju, referring to the cases registered against ED officials in the police station, argued that if Soren is released on bail, he will commit a similar crime again. After the arguments of Soren's defense and ED were completed, the court reserved its order.
