India-Pakistan Relations: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal gave a clear message about Pakistan during his US visit. Talking to the media in Washington, he said that when Pakistan tried to harm India, India gave a strong response. Goyal also clarified that India never stopped trade with Pakistan, but Pakistan itself took this step.

Modi government tried to improve relations

Piyush Goyal, referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to improve relations with Pakistan after the formation of the government in 2014, said, "In the years 2014, 2015 and 2016, Prime Minister Modi tried his best to improve relations with Pakistan. But when Pakistan did not stop its terrorist activities and tried to harm our citizens, then India gave a strong response to it." He further said that on the provocation of Pakistan, India took steps like surgical strike and air strike and showed that it can go to any extent for its security.

It was his decision to stop trade with Pakistan

On the ongoing discussion about trade with Pakistan, Goyal clarified that India did not stop trade with Pakistan. He said, "We never ended trade relations with Pakistan, it was Pakistan's own decision. India has never taken any step that would spoil relations with any country."

Strict stand on terrorism

Piyush Goyal also clarified India's position on the issue of terrorism. He said that India always believes in solving problems through dialogue and diplomacy. "We are not an expansionist country, we are supporters of peace and development. But if any country promotes terrorism, India and its people will never tolerate it," he said clearly.

Piyush Goyal termed America as India's most reliable trade partner. He said that the areas of trade, services, technology and investment are expanding rapidly between the two countries. “We have had excellent relations with the Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden administrations, and we look forward to further strengthening these relationships in the future,” Goyal said.

In Washington, he discussed several important trade-related issues with US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. He also co-chaired the 6th India-US CEO Forum. Through this forum, work is being done towards building deeper relations between India and the US in the field of trade and investment.
