Descendants of former princely states won in 13 elections

Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh is the son of six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Congress state unit president Pratibha Singh. Historically, the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency has elected descendants of the former princely states in 13 out of 19 elections, including two by-elections, since 1952.

'Queen of Controversies' and 'Chhota Pappu'

Vikramaditya Singh, a two-time MLA from Shimla (Rural) assembly constituency, is not new to the Mandi parliamentary constituency as both his father and mother have won the seat thrice each. Singh had campaigned extensively for his mother in the 2021 by-election from Mandi Lok Sabha seat. Even before his candidature was announced, a heated debate had erupted between Vikramaditya Singh and Bollywood film 'Queen' actress Kangana. While on one hand Vikramaditya Singh had called Ranaut the 'queen of controversies', the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate had indirectly called her 'Chhota Pappu'.

Kangana had indirectly termed Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Vikramaditya Singh as 'Pappu' and said that there is a 'Bada Pappu' in Delhi and a 'Chhota Pappu' in Himachal who says that she eats beef. Kangana asked why he was not showing proof of her eating beef. Strengthening her claim on this seat, Kangana had said in a statement, “I have made my name in the film industry without the help of my father and mother.
