Ujjwala Yojana: Modi government has given a big gift to crores of beneficiaries under the Ujjwala scheme. The government has increased the subsidy on gas cylinder to Rs 300 instead of Rs 200. This means that people coming under Ujjwala scheme will now get a gas cylinder worth only Rs 600. The government has reduced the prices of gas cylinders for the second time in about 37 days. The benefit of which will be given to 10 crore beneficiaries. Earlier on August 29, the government had reduced the price of gas cylinder by Rs 200. The benefit of which was given to all the consumers of the country.

Giving information during a briefing on cabinet decisions, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the government has increased the subsidy amount for the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per LPG cylinder. Earlier on August 29, the Central Government had increased the price of gas cylinder by Rs 200. Under which relief was given to all the gas cylinder consumers of the country. Then there was relief of Rs 400 with subsidy of Rs 200 and deduction of Rs 200 under Ujjwala scheme. Now the government has increased the subsidy from Rs 200 to Rs 300. After which the gas cylinder available for Rs 700 has become available for Rs 600.

September government had given this approval

In September, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved providing an additional 75 lakh LPG connections to women under the Ujjwala scheme. Union Minister Thakur had said that the additional LPG connections to be provided during the next three years will incur a financial burden of Rs 1650 crore. As per the existing modalities of Ujjwala 2.0, the first refill and stove will also be provided free of cost to the beneficiaries.

About 10 crore Ujjwala beneficiaries in the country

A month ago, the Union Cabinet had decided to reduce the prices of LPG cylinders by Rs 200, giving relief to the citizens. For example, due to this decision in Delhi, the price of 14.2 kg cylinder has come down to Rs 903 from the current Rs 1,103 per cylinder. This was in addition to the existing targeted subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder to Ujjwala families, which will continue. After this cut, the effective price for Ujjwala beneficiaries in Delhi became Rs 703 per cylinder. There are more than 31 crore domestic LPG consumers in the country, including 9.6 crore Ujjwala beneficiaries.
