At the same time, the candidates for the post of Speaker of the Lok Sabha were announced. Om Birla was fielded from the NDA and Congress MP K Suresh from the India Alliance. The Speaker was elected today. Om Birla was elected Speaker. This was a historic moment because this will be the first time that the same person from the BJP will be elected Speaker for the second consecutive time.
