New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also attended the meeting to decide the names of candidates for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on Thursday. This is the first time that PM Narendra Modi has also participated in the churning of tickets. On Wednesday, the meeting was held throughout the day at the BJP headquarters in Delhi regarding ticket distribution and now the meeting is being held once again. PM Modi virtually attended this meeting. Apart from the Prime Minister, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari also joined online. Apart from these leaders, Home Minister Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma were present in the headquarters itself.

One of the important issues discussed in this meeting is whether CM Yogi Adityanath will enter the election or not. Apart from this, discussion is also going on whether he will contest from Ayodhya or from Mathura. However, sources say that there seems to be an agreement in the party to field CM Yogi Adityanath from Ayodhya in the election season. If Yogi Adityanath enters the election season, then this will be his first assembly election. He has been MP from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat for 5 times and resigned from there only after becoming CM. After this he was elected as a member of the Legislative Council.

Party sources say that a counter strategy is being prepared to leave 7 backward class MLAs. Presenting CM Yogi Adityanath as the brand icon of Hindutva, preparations are being made to bring him down from Ayodhya itself. However, the final decision in this regard is to be taken by PM Narendra Modi. At present, the focus of the party is on the first two phases of elections to be held in western UP on February 10 and 14. The churning is going on for the seats here only. In the first round, voting is to be held in many big cities including Ghaziabad, Noida, Meerut.
