The political turmoil continues over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has threatened protests from Assam to Delhi, while the BJP has continued its sit-in protests. Congress will also hold a rally in Kolkata today.

Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: The rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital has created political turmoil. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has threatened to ignite a fire from Assam to Delhi, while the BJP has opened a front against her. Meanwhile, the BJP has announced to continue its series of dharnas.

BJP protest

BJP state president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has announced a protest from August 29. Party workers will sit on a dharna at Esplanade Y Channel and the women's unit will gherao the State Women's Commission office on August 30. Sukanta Majumdar has accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to ensure the safety of women as well as trying to suppress the incident and influence the investigation. Senior BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari has also announced to organize three rallies demanding the resignation of Mamata Banerjee.

TMC's response

At the same time, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has also become active on this issue. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that the student wing of Trinamool will demand capital punishment for the culprits at the gates of colleges on August 30. Dharnas and rallies will be organized on August 31, while on September 1, women will sit on a dharna all day to demand death penalty for rapists.

Congress initiative

The Congress is also not silent on this issue. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has planned to take out a rally from College Square to Shyam Bazar today. The rally will start at 2 pm and during this many major issues will be discussed.

Junior doctors' strike

Amidst all this, the strike of junior doctors is still going on. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has threatened the doctors in gestures that if they continue their strike, an FIR can be lodged against them, which will harm their career.

President Draupadi Murmu has also expressed concern over the matter and raised questions about women's safety. The issue has heated up the politics of West Bengal and all the major parties are busy playing their respective roles.
