North Central Railway has decided to stop the operation of trains on Kanpur-Lucknow route from 20 March to 30 April 2025. Due to the repair of Ganga bridge, 32 trains will be canceled, 42 diverted and some terminated. Passengers will have to plan their journey under alternative arrangements.

Indian Railway News: North Central Railway has decided to temporarily suspend 32 trains operating between Kanpur and Lucknow. This decision will come into effect after March 30. The railway authorities took this step to complete track repair work on the Ganga Bridge. Additionally, several train routes have been modified.

Reason for Train Suspension

The Lucknow Division of Northern Railway is set to carry out repair work on the Ganga Bridge. Due to this maintenance, the railway has decided to implement a mega traffic block. A total of 74 trains will be affected, including prominent ones such as Jhansi Express, Mumbai Express, Pune Express, Gorakhpur Express, Neelanchal Express, and Shatabdi Express.

Statement from Railway Officials

Senior DCM Kuldeep Tiwari stated that due to the repair work, the railway section will remain closed for nine hours daily. The maintenance of the bridge is essential to increase train speed. He also informed that trains 51813/14 (Jhansi-Lucknow) and 64203/04 (Lucknow-Kanpur Central MEMU) will remain canceled from March 20 to May 1.

Impact on Train Operations

Passengers traveling on the Kanpur-Lucknow rail route may face difficulties from March 20 to April 30, 2025. During this period, 32 trains will be completely canceled, while 42 trains will be diverted to alternative routes. Some trains will terminate at intermediate stations. The railway administration has made special arrangements for passenger convenience.

Route Diversions

The railway administration has diverted trains running from Kanpur Central to Lucknow via Prayagraj. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

Some trains will terminate mid-route and return from there:

  • 11407-11408 Pune-Lucknow Weekly Express (Terminating at Kanpur from March 18 – April 24)
  • 22121-22122 LTT-Lucknow AC Superfast Express (Terminating at Kanpur Central from March 22 – April 27)
  • 12209-12210 Kathgodam Weekly Express (Terminating at Lucknow from March 25 – April 29)
  • 15083-15084 Chhapra-Farrukhabad Express (Terminating at Gomti Nagar from March 19 – April 30)

Route Changes for Swarna Shatabdi and Other Trains

The routes of 42 trains, including 12003 Lucknow-New Delhi Shatabdi Express, have been altered.

The Swarna Shatabdi Express will reach Lucknow via Ghaziabad instead of the Aligarh-Etawah-Kanpur Central route from March 20 to April 30.
